Fall Into Art to feature local artists, musicians this weekend

Over 30 local artists will showcase their work at the annual Fall Into Art show this weekend. Featured art will include ceramics, drawings, jewelry and more.Fall Into Art will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Knights of Columbus Event Center, 2525 N. Stadium Blvd. Admission is free, and all ages are welcome.

Shakespeare's 50th birthday prompts fond memories of the restaurant's history

Dee Lantzy recalled when her late brother Jay Lewis bought a restaurant called Shakespeare’s Pizza. In 1977, when renovations began on the once small walk-in restaurant, Lantzy was in town with her 3-year-old son and 2-month-old daughter.She said she took them to a store on Broadway that did stenciling and had a Shakespeare’s T-shirt made for her son and a onesie for her daughter.

New Amazon facility in Ashland braces for the holiday season

According to information from Andy DiOrio, regional PR manager for Amazon, since its opening in June, the Ashland delivery station has delivered more than a million packages as of October. More than 2 million packages are expected to be delivered at the location by the end of 2022.

University Hospital will add 16 beds in emergency room expansion plan

The University Hospital Emergency Department will be expanded to fit 16 more beds, for a total of 77 beds in the emergency room.The Health Affairs Committee for the UM Board of Curators announced the plan in a meeting Thursday. The expansion is set to be completed in fall 2024.

Columbia artist Sarah Nguyen shares symbolic vision at Bingham Gallery

Pieces by Columbia-based artist Sarah Nguyen are on display through Thursday at the MU Bingham Gallery in an exhibition called, "The Things of This World."Nguyen's show depicts portraits of her family members, local folklore and symbols prominent in Jewish life. Helen Osman, communications director at the Diocese of Jefferson City, has been appointed by Pope Francis to a five-year term as a consultant to the Vatican’s Dicastery for communications, according to a news release from the diocese.Osman will serve as one of the advisors to the Vatican on how to use media — including radio, print, television and digital resources — to further the Catholic church's mission.

A specialty team within Missouri Task Force 1 was deployed to Florida to help assess the damage from Hurricane Ian, according to a Wednesday Facebook post from the Boone County Fire Protection District.A request for the Disaster Situational Awareness and Reconnaissance Team was made Tuesday night through an Emergency Management Assistance Compact sent to Missouri from the state of Florida, according to the post.

Public gives feedback on three candidates for director of Public Works
